Reflections from the President

Dear SAVIR Members and Colleagues,

Xiang SmallThe New Year brought a new hope for SAVIR as we together have made several major achievements since April of 2022.

The SAVIR Conference Committee and the Scientific Committee are working diligently to finalize the conference agenda for the SAVIR Annual Conference in Denver, Colorado on April 17-19, 2023. Due to the large number of submitted abstracts and other workshop proposals, many reviewers were asked to review those abstracts. On behalf of SAVIR, I would like to thank all reviewers for your commitment to a fair and transparent evaluation of the submitted abstracts. I also would like to encourage those researchers and professionals whose abstracts were not accepted by the Committees to plan to attend the Conference. I understand the disappointment when you receive a rejection letter, but the 2023 SAVIR Annual Conference will be an excellent opportunity for you to meet scholars in the violence and injury research field. I also assure our commitment to creating a learning environment at the Conference so you will learn new ideas that you could bring back to your work. The registration for the 2023 SAVIR Annual Conference is open now (https://www.savirweb.org/aws/SAVIR/pt/sp/conference-23). I encourage you to register early and to plan your trip in advance.

During the inaugural meeting of the newly established Council of Past Presidents on January 19th, 2023, I could feel the enthusiasm and energy of the past presidents about major initiatives that SAVIR has achieved or is currently implementing. All members of the Executive Committee were invited to attend the meeting and many excellent ideas were shared. The advice and ideas of these leaders will help SAVIR manage potential challenges and seek future growth opportunities. The Executive Committee will assess their suggestions and plan to make a few strategic steps to lay a good foundation for SAVIR to grow in the future.

I am pleased to share that SAVIR is building a career section on the official SAVIR webpage. The planned new service, Job Board, will allow website users to view candidate resumes, store resumes, and monitor/manage job postings. This service will include an online job board, recruitment advertising, resume bank, career advice, resume services, coaching services, placement services and other services related to user job searching and employer recruiting (“Career Services”). The target launch date of the SAVIR Job Board is in the first week of March 2023. I encourage you to visit the SAVIR webpage and try the new service after the career section is available.

The more I serve SAVIR, the more excited I am about its future.

Yours sincerely,

Henry Xiang, MD, MPH, PhD, MBA
